DOLORES HEIGHTS RESIDENCE

Larkspur Builders collaborated with Studio Ahead on this 1915 Edwardian residence in San Francisco’s Dolores Heights neighborhood. Through the years, the home had been through multiple remodels, leaving it feeling haphazard. The clients, a couple in their thirties, enlisted Studio Ahead to realize their new vision. The goal was to keep some of the traditional elements they loved while contemporizing the interiors for how they live today.

LBI’s work included a complete overhaul of the interior space: A newly reconfigured kitchen with a walnut island and hood combined with honed black basalt and new millwork and white cabinetry, modernizing the bathrooms with teak vanities, shower benches, and shower niches, rebuilding the mantle and fireplace, and updating electrical and plumbing systems. All new white oak flooring and modern paint colors throughout.

The home features many custom elements showcasing local artists and makers and their narratives, complimenting Studio Ahead’s ethos: designing custom spaces where the stories behind the artists and furniture-makers are brought to the forefront and support people on the rise.
